Having completed a creative writing course with the Open University I felt the need to take a generic arts degree to gain an understanding of the broader context of writing, I joined Life Act in the belief that it would supplement this learning. Life Act is really a dream come true! Delivering Disability equality training through drama is something I have wanted to try since seeing a colleague use mime over two decades ago. I believe Life Act to be what I envisaged.

Within Life Act, the removal of disabling barriers is not confined to the output to our audiences. It is the bedrock of our practise as artists, resulting in me being enabled to find ways of performing. A prime example of this lies in the powerful theatrical device of freezing, something that by approaching improvisation and rehearsal from the starting point of breaking down barriers Life Act has enabled me to accomplish.

Through the use of audio voice over I was given the opportunity to write and perform a meditative soliloquy based upon my experience of employing personal assistants. Presently and moving forward, alongside learning to use a communication aid during performance, I am keenly aware of how by mixing the mediums of music and dance are enabling myself to engage in artistic expression.
